Tyco/Mattel Chassis Parts & Diagrams

The Tyco line of slot car products was recently acquired by the Mattel Toy Company. Mattel has discontinued most of the items previously listed in the Tyco catalog. Some of the first things to be dropped were track sections to make 4- and 6-lane raceways and the venerable HP 7 chassis.

Mattel renamed the Tyco product line Mattel Electric Hot Wheels and renamed the Tyco 440×2 chassis the 440×3. The new 440×3 chassis is essentially the same as the original 440×2 chassis with the addition of a small capacitor to reduce radio frequency interference to better meet European RFI regulations.

Looking for Tyco/Mattel track? See the Track page for the complete line of Tyco/Mattel track. A full line of Tyco Ready to Run (RTR) slot cars are available on the Tyco/Mattel Slot Cars for Sale page.

Displayed below are exploded diagrams of the Mattel/Tyco Magnum 440×2 chassis as well as the original Tyco Magnum 440 and Tyco HP7 chassis.

Factory repair parts for each chassis are listed below the chassis diagrams. Simply use the Add to Cart button to order the various Tyco and BSRT parts available for sale.

I also stock many of the hard-to-find Tyco Harley Davidson Motorcycle and Quad/Hopper factory repair parts.

See the BSRT Tyco Hop-Up Parts section at the bottom of this page for a complete line of BSRT high-performance parts for Tyco chassis.

Tyco/Mattel Magnum 440×2

The Tyco Magnum 440×2 chassis is the most recent release. Mattel acquired Tyco several years ago, but retained the 440×2 chassis and re-named it the 440×3. The only difference is a small capacitor on the motor brushes to reduce Radio Frequency Interference (RFI.)

The only major difference between the Magnum 440×2 and original Magnum 440 chassis is the rear traction magnet. A Magnum 440×2 chassis has a pair of traction magnets located behind the motor (hence the x2 designation) while the original Magnum 440 had a single bar magnet that ran the full width of the chassis.

The Tyco 440/440×2 Front Axle Assembly comes complete with a pair of front wheels and tires along with an axle.

The Tyco 440/440×2 Rear Axle Assembly includes an axle and a 25T crown gear and spacer. Rear wheels and tires are not included, and must be purchased separately.

The Tyco 440×2 Black Silicone Tires listed above are slip-on tires that fit the standard factory wheels. A 6-pack contains 6 pairs of slip-on silicone tires.

Jel Claws are a new high-performance racing tire. They are available as rear racing slicks and front F1-style replacement tires. Both slip on the standard Tyco wheel hubs.

Tyco 440/440×2 Silver Electrical Kit

A silver electrical kit is now available for the Tyco 440/440×2 chassis. This kit provides silver-plated pickup shoes and springs along with new motor brushes and silver motor brush springs. This electrical kit along with a set of Jel Claws or Silicone tires will dramatically improve the performance of any 444/440×2 slot car.

Tyco Magnum 440×2 Body Shells

Ferrari F40 Red – Body Shell

This Ferrari F40 body shell fits the Tyco 440×2 Wide-Pan chassis.

With a few decals it can made to look like one of the Le Mans 24 Hour GT class entrants.

This is one of the nicest Ferrari body shells Tyco ever produced.

Tyco Magnum 440×2 Tune-Up Kit

A Tyco 440×2 Tune-Up Kit is also available. These kits include the most commonly needed replacement parts:

Pickup Shoes (2 Pair)
Guide Pin
Front Tires (Pair)
Rear Axle Assembly w/ Wheels & Tires
Rear Tires w/440×2 Sidewalls (Pair)
Rear Tires Plain (Pair)
Note: This Tune-Up Kit can be used to repair a Magnum 440 chassis as well.

Tyco Magnum 440×2 Rolling Chassis

Complete Tyco Magnum 440×2 Rolling Chassis are also available. These are complete running chassis, sans a body. All they require is any Tyco body shell to become a fully functional slot car.

Sometimes it’s cheaper to just replace an old worn out or damaged chassis with a new one than it is to purchase all of the repair parts required separately.

Two versions of Tyco Magnum 440×2 Rolling Chassis are available. The Wide Pan chassis, for normal fendered slot car body shells, and the Narrow chassis for Formula 1/IndyCar style body shells.

Tyco Magnum 440

The original Tyco Magnum 440 chassis was superseded by the Tyco Magnum 440×2. Most parts, aside from the chassis and rear traction magnet, are interchangeable. Body shells for the Tyco Magnum 440 chassis will also fit on the narrow version of the newer Tyco/Mattel Magnum 440×2 chassis.

The Tyco Magnum 440 chassis has a single wide traction bar magnet at the rear that spans the entire width of the chassis, unlike the Tyco Magnum 440×2 chassis which employs two smaller traction magnets positioned directly above the track power rails.

The Tyco 440 Black Silicone Tires listed above are slip-on tires that fit the standard factory wheels. A 6-pack contains 6 pairs of slip-on silicone tires.

Jel Claws are a new high-performance racing tire. They are available as rear racing slicks and front F1-style replacement tires. Both slip on the standard Tyco wheel hubs.

Tyco Magnum 440 Rolling Chassis

Complete Tyco Magnum 440 Rolling Chassis are also available. These are complete running chassis, sans a body. All they require is any Tyco body shell to become a fully functional slot car.

Tyco HP7

The Tyco HP7 chassis is no longer being produced by Mattel, which is unfortunate because this particular chassis was very closely matched to the Tomy AFX Turbo chassis which is still in production. Body shells for the HP7 chassis will also fit on the wide version on the Magnum 440×2 chassis.

Aside from the Tyco HP7 Tune-Up Kit and complete Tyco HP7 Rolling Chassis sold below, no other factory repair parts are currently available for the Tyco HP7 slot car chassis.

A few Tyco HP7 Hop-Up parts are available however.

Tyco HP7 Tune-Up Kit

A Tune-Up Kit for the Tyco HP7 is available. It contains the most commonly needed replacement parts to repair a Tyco HP7 Chassis:

Pickup Shoes (Pair)
Guide Pin
Headlight Bulb & Wiring
Front Tires (Pair)
Rear Axle Assembly
Rear Tires (Pair)

Tyco HP7 Hop-Up Parts

The HP7 Polymer Traction Magnet will improve the cornering and handling of any HP7 slot car chassis. The increased downforce will not effect motor performance and can still be used with set wall packs.

The Polymer Traction Magnet and a pair of HP7 Black Silicone tires will breath new life into any Tyco HP7 slot car.

Tyco HP7 Rolling Chassis

A complete HP7 Rolling Chassis is still available. A Rolling Chassis is a complete running slot car chassis less the body shell.

Due to the lack of spare parts for the Tyco HP7 slot car, this chassis and the Tune-Up Kit sold above are all that’s left of the Tyco HP7 product line.

TycoPro Parts

I sell the Guide Flag Wipers used on the original TycoPro chassis. These same wipers can also be used on Riggen guide flags.
